A haunted house. A portal that lies inside. Four friends must enter both to save their world.

Thirteen year-old Colton has a crush on the new foreign exchange student, Dylan, but soon discovers his new American friend is not your average kid – he’s a werewolf. Their friendship has no time to blossom when Colton and his two close friends accompany Dylan to a haunted house, where they must search inside for a portal that will take them to another world where Dylan’s aunt is captive.

Excerpt

A loud clanging echoed across the yard, and we both cowered behind the stone fence post. Adjacent to the old post, a crumbling stone wall shielded us from anyone standing by the house. When I poked my head around the ledge, nothing but the motionless tall weeds could be seen in the yard and the same gloomy look the house had had before. It was dead quiet. Jade put her hands on my shoulders, her mouth next to my ear. “S-see, I told you. You believe me now? It’s haunted.” I tried to speak, but my mouth was dry. I brought my binoculars up, gripping them hard with both hands. “Probably just varmint inside,” I said.

“Aye. And maybe you and your butterfingers could be captain of the rugby team.”

“Har-har. You think the Kennedy twins really disappeared inside?”

“I told you. I saw them at the house when I was with Erin two nights ago. They said they were going inside.”
“Maybe they’re hanging out at the local pub downtown?”
“Colton, no one has seen those fellas since that night. They went inside and never came out, sure of it.”
I swiveled the binoculars around, peering at the large, arched front doorway, which had a wolf face door knocker. Jade whispered close to my ear, “You see anything?”
“Shhh, I can’t focus with your tongue in my ear.”
“My tongue isn’t in your ear,” Jade said, her voice irritated. After a few seconds, she pushed on my shoulder. “By the way, you find out the new foreign-exchange fella’s story? You didn’t take your eyes off him in class. I missed a lot while I was away.” She giggled. “You fancy him, don’t you?”
I cringed, lowered the binoculars, and spoke in a hushed voice over my shoulder. “Don’t say that out loud.”
“And who’s going to blimey hear us? Just us and the ghouls at 44 Lowre Few Lane.”

Lunchtime came, and I headed to the cafeteria. I scanned the room, searching for Dylan. My heart beat fast. I didn’t see him. Nor did I see anyone I wanted to sit with, or someone, for that matter, who would want me to sit next to them. Ms. Griffin was standing close to several teachers, and I picked up bits and pieces of the gossip. You could count on Ms. Griffin for gathering the latest scandal regarding students, teachers, and anything else, and sometimes she would let things slip to students. Especially if she liked them. She was talking about Brian and the fact that he and his brother had been at that house. I assumed she meant 44 Lower Few Lane. Boys’ laughter reached my ears and I turned. On the far side of the room sat a row of rugby players. My heart plummeted to depths of glumness. Dylan was sitting with them, his back to me. Several of the boys were laughing at whatever story Dylan was telling them. I got my lunch, my head hung down, and I clomped down the hall to go outside. A few boys were forming up teams for rugby and asking for players.A round-faced boy pointed toward me and asked, “What about him?”

I froze in place. A skinny, spindly-legged boy cawed in laughter and slapped the oval-face lad on the back. “Don’t be a muppet. He’s only good at running numbers in his head.”

The two boys faced away from me and continued their search for players.

Always singled out as the smart kid. The brainy one. Tears threatened to sell, but I kept control and headed to my favorite oak tree. I had no chance of winning over Dylan.

The great war is over. The Dark Queen has fallen, slain by a dwarven champion as the prophecies foretold.

Still struggling with her transition from farmer’s daughter to Hero of the Free Races, Irma barters her newfound fame for the power to change things for the betterment of all – including her former enemies.

With the Dark Queen’s death, her subjugated orcs either succumbed to madness or were slain in battle. Only few orcs remain, and Irma has sworn to protect them, to help them find their place among the Free Races. One of them is Vash, a breeding mother from the pits, searching for a new home among the ruins of her old world with a tiny horde of orc children in tow.

When they meet, they discover that despite their differences in size, upbringing and race, they share the same hopes for the future. And while the odds they face seem overwhelming, the feelings growing between them may be strong enough to overcome them all.

From Rainbow-Award-winning authors Beryll and Osiris Brackhaus comes a sweet, happy f/f romantasy that begins where other epic fantasy novels end, a stand-alone novel about courage, hope, and the importance of family.

Excerpt

Vash sniffed the pale blue berry. It didn’t smell of much, but that might have been due to the fact that her fingers smelled so much stronger, sour with sweat. Cautiously, she bit into it and nearly spit it out when its sharp taste exploded on her tongue, tangy enough to prick like needles. She had to force herself to keep her mouth closed and wait. It didn’t burn, so that was good. Her only way of telling whether it was poisonous was to trust her instincts, and so far, they had proven surprisingly accurate.

Like those roots she had found her maggots chewing on once. She had told them to keep away, but ‘no’, they just had to. A few hours later, they had been whimpering about their belly aches. They had been lucky nothing worse had happened. They could have died. Or they could have been back in the pits, where they would have been thrashed – first for disobeying and then for whining.

With a shudder, Vash forced that thought away. They were all lucky to have gotten out.

She swallowed the bit of berry and waited for that queasy feeling she got whenever she tried something inedible. Surprisingly few things out here were. The orcs‘ fabled constitution apparently also applied to being able to eat almost anything. Until their escape from the pits, she had never eaten anything but the slop cooked in their huge, grimy kettles. All the food delivered to them from outside went into those pots and was cooked until it didn’t taste of much at all. Even when their guardians had been set on slim rations, they had still received plenty. Vash were more important to the war effort than some stupid grunt that could easily be replaced. Vash were who made those replacements. They were the rarest kind of orc – those who could breed.

Her stomach grumbled angrily, but it was a pang of hunger, not nausea. Vash smiled. The berries were good and there were several bushes of them. A single one didn’t bear many fruits, but all together, they would feed the maggots tonight. And, if she managed to reign them in, they might even have some for tomorrow. She popped the other half into her mouth, and this time, she welcomed the taste. She started picking the bushes clean, gathering the berries into the makeshift bundle she had made of a tattered cloak.

Her own clothes were a ragged mix, the simple, coarse shift she had been wearing in the pits and whatever she had picked up since – a pair of sturdy leather pants that were a little too short, and a thick, padded tunic which she wore over the shift. Her lower arms and her feet were wrapped in rags both for warmth and protection. She’d even found a pair of fitting boots on a corpse a few days ago.

About the Authors

Excerpt

This is my continuing journal about the people I love and of my life. I have a large family, and even though I don’t talk about all them in a particular journal or just mention someone once or twice, they are around me, interact with me, and I love each and every one of them. If I wrote everything that everyone said, my journals would fill our library shelves. Some have said they haven’t read very many books in my style; that it’s hard to get used to. I invite you to read a few of my chronicles and become part of my world. Be part of my family, because you see, this isn’t just a story, it’s a celebration of life.

My name is Darius or for those who knew me on Eiravia where I was born, Paden. It used to seem strange that I had two names but now it seems right. I don’t think I’d give up either name because it would be a part of my life that I’d have to leave behind, a part of my life that will always be precious to me.

I was taken off the planet of Eiravia with two other children, the last three born on a planet of immortals. Maybe it was nature’s way of saying we couldn’t populate the universe, maybe it kept us unique, or maybe it was just a fluke. They shoved us on a ship bound for our sister planet Earth to forget who we were and where we came from, but home always has a pull. Together with Cas, Garrick, and I made it back home and realized where we belonged all along.

The scene would shock most people.
A nun on her knees, giving head to the god of The Underworld.
Haedes’ face is contorted with anger and pleasure melded into one, and Annie’s eyes are wide and tear filled, staring up at him as he continues to thrust himself into her mouth.
At the intrusion, they both turn from where they are positioned. Her at the foot of the super king size mattress, and him towering over her, both hands grasping the black wood of the bed post with white knuckles.
I cough, clearing my throat as Annie’s gaze becomes slightly terrified. She’s bound at the wrists and ankles with black silk, unable to move, but clearly mortified. Her blonde hair falls from beneath the ceremonial wimple he always makes her wear, for a reason I can’t understand, as her jaw slackens and he turns to me, fully naked.
“Your daughter, and yes, she is your daughter –  is under attack from the Demon Lords. She’s coming to stay with us. Thought you’d like to know,” I announce, keeping my chin tilted high and spinning on one heel.

In every epoch and age there are a handful of souls who hear the Earth’s voice, hearken to the Muses’s song and drink from the font of the Goddess of Wisdom. These are the poets, artists and visionairies of our world: the creative geniuses like Dante, Milton and Blake, whose inspiration and insights have shaped our cultural memory.

Unhappily, with the advent of the modern age the Muses’s song has become silent and the font of the Earth’s Wisdom has begun to dry up.

To redress this precarious situation, six of the nine Muses have descended from Olympus to take birth upon the Earth. Their purpose is to re-awaken humanity to the inspiration of the great arts and restore the broken links between gods and men. But, the six Muses are not just daughters of Zeus, they are also the daughters of Mnemosyne, the Goddess of Memory, and the granddaughters of Gaia, Mother Earth herself. And when the Muses discover that their mother and Gaia have a totally different agenda for them than their father Zeus, well it is at this point that their loyalties become divided and everything becomes very bloody and messy.

Find out how in this dramatic and spellbinding new novel by Miranda Moondawn “Mooniana and the Secret of the Lost Chronicles of Sophia.”

Excerpt

“It is I who am you And it is you who are me And wherever you are, I am there, For I am sown in all And you gather me from every place Of your desire… And when it is that you gather me, It is your own self that you collect.” (The Gnostic Gospel of Eve)

Lake Vattern Sweden. May Day 1991.

The early morning sun cast its golden bow across the snow-covered Swedish pine forest. Liv von Sommer and her sister Pia rode their adopted horse through the solitary avenues which opened up before them. The breeze from Lake Vattern pierced the pine needles and toyed with Liv’s hair, spinning its golden whiteness like silken threads from Heimdal’s bow. Its angel watched Pia with a dumbstruck expression, before it settled on Liv, playing with her, as if she were a naked pearl churned in Freya’s milky cauldron. The two sisters rode together until they came to a clearing in the forest. They left their horse and spread a blanket out upon the carpet of pine needles. Liv sat herself upon the blanket and crossed her legs. Pia took a carry bag which they had brought with them and emptied its contents on the blanket. There were a dozen or more crystals and stones, moonstone, amethyst, lapis lazuli, rose quartz and turquoise, which spilled out. There was also incense, a bell, a book of poems and incantations, as well as other objects, such as Liv’s flute, which the girls needed to perform a ritual for Mother Earth. With eyes half closed Liv meditated for several moments on the sunbeams which reflected through the avenues of pine trees. And as Pia lit the incense and consecrated the spirits of the four directions with incense and water, Liv took up her flute and began to play various musical scales upon it. The flute was a seven holed Indian bansuri flute, crafted from a single hollow shaft of bamboo. Liv and Pia were both students at the nearby boarding school, “Albatross Kostskolen.” Liv studied music at the school and her music teacher Chandramukhi Mukherjii came from Bengal in India. She had been teaching Liv the bansuri flute for the past year and had informed her that the instrument possessed a three octave range and had been used by Indian musicians all the way back to the time of the Hindu God Krishna. Krishna was apparently something of a playboy and, when he played his bansuri flute, all the gopi girls immediately abandoned their household duties to come and dance with him in the moonlit forest by a beautiful river called the Yamuna. As Liv played her flute, Pia invoked the power of the awakening Earth with a haunting poem by the English Romantic poet Percy Shelley: “Sacred Goddess, Mother Earth, Thou from whose immortal bosom, Gods and men and beasts have birth. Leaf and blade and bud and blossom, Breathe thine influence most divine.” As she intoned the words, Liv tried to capture the lyrical music of the poetry in her flute. As she played and the tones of her flute drifted up and echoed melodiously in the clearing, Pia contemplated her elder sister’s beauty with rapt attention…….

From the Author

This book was first written many years ago in Copenhagen Denmark, as a short surrealist novel, or fabla rasa, based on six sisters, who were sirens in human form. The sirens were also Muses, connected to Mnemosyne, the Greek Goddess of Memory. The book was originally named after their mother, the Mnemosyne and ended in a dramatic play in the genre of ritual theatre as process of psycho-spiritual transformation. The names of the sisters were Mooniana the poet, Fuchsia, the painter, Loreley the singer, Ondine the dancer, Kastanja the Weaver and Afranella the harpist and, along with the motifs of Greek myth, there was a heavy undercurrent of Radical Gnosticism in the original work.
Left to stew for some years, the characters and themes of the book were taken up again and the original theme of Greek Myth, Ritual theatre and Gnosis was supplemented with imagery and lore from the Hindu Bhakti and Tantric traditions. Along with being sirens, the sister now took on the attributes of conventional Hindu goddesses, such as Saraswati and Lakshmi, as well as functioning as mediums for the Maha Vidyas or Wisdom Goddesses of the Kundalini Tantric tradition of Shakti – Smashan Tara, Chinnamasta, Bhuvaneshwari and the like. Due to these changes, the six sisters of Mother Memory and Sophia were now the six sisters of Sophia-Shakti. Fusing the archetypal goddess traditions of both East and West brought a universality and depth to the narrative which was not there previously. During the time of re-writing, from 2012-2014, the characters were also filled out, political issues relevant to the time span of the novel – from May 1 1991 to September 11 2001 – were also added. And the original sirens were allocated their formal Muse titles: Mooniana became Euterpe, Fuchsia became Urania, Ondine became Terpsichore, Loreley became Polyhymnia, Afranella became Erato and Kastanja became the Muse of Tragedy Melpomene. It is to Melpomene that the veiled Sophia, banished from the throne of God, comes – to reveal the exact location of the Lost Chronicles of Sophia.

Reviews of the Wolf Smitten books:

Author Phoenix Johnson’s The Wolf in the Neighborhood is an exciting erotic paranormal romance.

Krissy has been living a free, happy life since leaving her cheating ex James. Suddenly, a new neighbor, Derek, moves in and immediately captures her heart. Trouble brews when James decides to reenter her life and reclaim his most prized possession. Krissy fears for Derek’s life, but he steps up to protect her in wolf form as her knight. However, a nice touch is the fact that Krissy also needs to take care of Derek. A very sweet moment!

Unfortunately, James will never let Krissy go. This leads the reader on an intense adventure of life and death as well as love and possible sacrifice. Will they be able to save each other?

Every woman deep down wishes for a knight to protect and rescue her. Derek is a perfect knight. And Krissy is a strong woman despite her need for someone to support her. She can stand up for herself.

Phoenix creates complex and interesting characters. She builds a sweet, passionate and deep relationship between Derek and Krissy, albeit a quick one. They are soulmates. Phoenix unveils the evil nature of James and his flunkies. And she adds some characters who still have heroic, decent hearts to help along the way.

Since this is an erotic novel, I must warn those under 18 years old to avoid it. The scenes were sizzling and tasteful. Phoenix composes beautiful, touching moments as we learn more of the characters’ pasts.

I enjoyed this story and recommend it to those who enjoy erotic paranormal romances. Phoenix gives the reader an unforgettable story!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. The rating and opinions are solely mine.

Title: Leader of the Pack

Series: Wolf Smitten

Designation: Book Three of Series, NOT a Standalone

Author: Phoenix Johnson

My Rating: Five Super Sexy Stars*****

Leader of the Pack is the third and final instalment of The Wolf Smitten Series by new author, Phoenix Johnson. Her talent and imagination continue to shine brightly in this riveting continuation of Derek and Krissy’s story. Johnson was a fledgling new author when I read her first published release, The Wolf in the Neighborhood. I was fortunate enough to have received a complimentary copy of her first published book in exchange for a review and I must say, I was surprised and impressed with her ability and unique style. A year later, I received a complimentary copy of the second book of the series, Once Bitten, Twice Shy in exchange for an honest review and again, I was impressed by her talent but I was even more amazed by the improvement in her skill and the quality of her work. I watched and waited for news of her next book and now, eleven months later, she has just released Leader of the Pack, the conclusion of the series and this one, I eagerly purchased myself. And Johnson did not disappoint. The book is exciting, imaginative, fast-paced, well-crafted and well edited. The narrative is extremely well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view as told by our two protagonists. The dialogue is smart, well executed and flows beautifully. Throughout the series, the characters have been captivating, engaging, endearing, sexy and well developed. The story grabbed my attention immediately but the hero and heroine totally captured my heart. Johnson did a wonderful job of combining these elements into a deliciously sweet, seriously sexy and delightfully entertaining paranormal romance.

After a seven year failed relationship and the upsetting death of his Mother, handsome veterinarian Derek moves to New York City for a fresh start. On his second day in his new apartment he finds his beautiful new neighbor, Krissy, sunbathing on the roof – in the nude! Oh my! No one ever comes to the roof that early, so when she’s caught without her clothes, she plays it cool. But Krissy is anything but cool. In fact, her new neighbor Derek is making her very hot indeed. Besides, it’s been six months since her breakup with James and it would be so nice to meet a great guy. Sparks fly and heat flares instantly between the two. After a dangerous and harrowing experience with Krissy’s ex-boyfriend, the couple think they are finally headed for smooth sailing – until Derek gets a call from Aubree, his ex-girlfriend from London and she’s not in London – she’s here at the airport and she wants him back and is willing to do anything to get him! What? But just how will Derek’s wolf react to Aubree’s unwanted advances?

We know in Book Two, Derek’s dark secrets have been revealed and ghosts from his past have surfaced and are threatening not only his current life and happiness but also his future . After all these years, he has finally discovered how he became a wolf and the unexpected discovery may very well have placed everyone in even more danger. We also now know that his ex-girlfriend, Aubree, was unsuccessful in her scheme to lure Derek back into her life. Fortunately, her devious seduction backfired and her twisted plan failed. But the betrayal almost cost Derek his relationship with Krissy who he now realizes is not only the love of his life but the mate his wolf has also chosen. Consequently, our two lovers become even closer and their relationship is strengthened but Derek now faces a dangerous and life altering decision. He is contacted by the scientist responsible for the experiment that changed him into a werewolf as a teenager and is offered the choice to destroy his wolf and possibly regain his humanity. Facing such a staggering decision, the couple decides to escape the city for a camping trip to the mountains for a much needed break which hopefully will give Derek the clarity he needs in order to make his choice but once again, danger awaits our two lovers in the forest. An unexpected attack leads to another crisis and now Krissy’s life may be at risk. Will Krissy survive her injuries and if so, how will it affect her future with Derek? Will Derek finally learn to accept his life or will he choose to destroy his wolf, thereby possibly destroying himself in the process? Will Krissy lose her man…um…wolf or will they finally be able to find their happily-ever-after with each other? We’ll see! Oh my! Exciting! Well Written! Smart! Compelling! Riveting! Suspenseful! Romantic! Sexy! Was there anything about this book I didn’t like? Not really, although I did feel that the ending was a wee bit rushed. I would have loved for it to have been a little longer and more detailed. There was so much potential for further development of the story. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Would I recommend this book to a friend? You bet! Great work Phoenix Johnson! I loved it!

Phoenix Johnson has always been intrigued by the written word. Even when she was a young girl, she usually had her nose stuck in at least one book, and her need to read would drive her to peruse the back of the same cereal box each morning at breakfast. Paranormal and fantasy captured her heart, with tales about dragons, magic, and fanciful creatures sweeping her away to a wonderful new world where she felt she truly belonged. While she dabbled in writing while in primary school, it wasn’t until high school that she decided she should try her hand at writing her own book, and even gave poetry a try.

She wandered away from writing for a few years, but was soon encouraged to return and, within months of picking up the proverbial pen, Phoenix’ first story, The Wolf In The Neighborhood, was accepted for publication by Naughty Nights Press. While working on the rest of the Wolf Smitten Trilogy, Phoenix decided to take on a university degree, and is now in the final stretch of her Bachelor of Art’s degree in Professional Writing and Publishing, with plans to continue on to her Master’s degree.

In early 2015, Phoenix was thrilled to discover she’d made two Top 5 lists with three entries in the Easychair Bookstore Awards. In June, it was announced she had placed first in Best Paranormal with Once Bitten Twice Shy, the second installment in her Wolf Smitten Trilogy, while The Wolf In The Neighborhood and Wolf Smitten placed third in their respective categories of Best Paranormal and Best Series.

With her inclusion in the Alphas on the Prowl Box Set in 2015, Phoenix hit the top 100 bestsellers lists across numerous distributors, number 1 bestseller on several Amazon lists, and this was recently followed by the announcement of her achievement of number 1 bestseller for her publisher, Naughty Nights Press, for the entirety of 2015. The awards and achievements have only served to strengthen her ambitions, and she is now aiming at reaching the bestseller lists for USA Today and New York Times.

Phoenix has been working hard to make 2015 her year, and has been busy organizing paranormal anthology Twisted Tales with seven other authors. Its release at the end of June was greatly anticipated, and she is extremely excited to see where her writing career takes her next.
