Playing It Cool

PLAYING IT COOL

A Men of Steele Novella

by Zoë Mullins

Genre: Erotic Contemporary Romance

Publication: January 9, 2018

When Spencer’s old college roommate offers him a job at Steele Construction, he doesn’t hesitate. Not only does he get to be closer to his sister and her family, he may finally have the chance to repair the rift between himself and his parents.

His parents live only three hours away but it may as well be on Mars as a blizzard moving up the coast has him seeking refuge at The Red Gate Inn. Spencer prides himself on playing it cool, but something about the raven-haired innkeeper has him overheated.

As a single working mom, Gina didn’t get much time to herself. With her mom and daughter off to Florida for a week, and the inn she owns closed for the holidays, she is looking forward to some me time. Then it started to snow. In good conscience she couldn’t turn away her brother’s newest employee when he needed shelter from the storm, but her guest has her feeling anything but professional.

It may be cold outside but things are heating up at the Inn.

He could still see the faint outline of tires tracks from a vehicle somewhere in front of him but the snow was getting deeper. Fast. The vehicle who made the tracks couldn’t be seen, but he didn’t think it was because it was so far ahead, it was just hidden by the all encompassing blanket of white. A blizzard had not been in the forecast when he headed out this morning.

There was no way he was getting to his parents in Maine this tonight. He’d be lucky if he got to The Red Gate Inn. When the snow began to fall and his tires had begun to slip and slide, he’d called his friend Ben who lived in this area, hoping for a recommendation should he have to get off the road. Ben had called him right back with an updated forecast and directions to the best B&B, his words, in St. George. If only I can find the place, he thought.

It was on the outskirts of town, but not far from the highway. He’d already passed by where he thought it should be once, had turned around and was now coming at it from the other direction. Through the snow, he saw a figure in a red parka, brushing off a sign near where he thought the street still was. He slowed down.

He could see the outline of the driveway and though it looked recently plowed, it was filling in fast. Peeking out over the snowbank he saw the tip of a gate. A red gate. That must be it.

He hit the window control, lowering the passenger window. A puff of cold air invaded the warmth of the car’s interior and the snowflakes instantly began to melt into little puddles on his front seat.

“Is this The Red Gate Inn?” he asked the figure which he could now tell was a woman. She was bundled up in the parka, a toque covering her hair, and a scarf hiding the lower half of her face. He could only see her dark, sparkling eyes. Little ice crystals had formed on the end of her lashes.

“You must be Spencer,” she said, pulling the scarf down to her chin. “I was getting worried. I couldn’t believe it when Ben said you were out in this weather. Drive on up – I will meet you there.” She gestured to the stately Victorian home at the end of the drive.

“Do you want me to drive you up?”

She gave his car a quick look, and he thought she was evaluating its pristine interior, then she smiled. “No it’s okay – I’ll meet you there.”

He frowned, and rolled up the window. He didn’t know why but her swift dismissal of the car displeased him. It was only a rental, and while he’d asked for snow tires, he should have been smart and also asked for four-wheel drive.

The car wasn’t cutting it and yeah, he laughed, he couldn’t blame her for turning down the ride. She was probably able to walk to the house faster than he was able to navigate the sedan to the top of the drive. Of course the house was up a hill, he shook his head.

Invitation to Play

AmazonB&NKoboGoodreads

Deacon has never been the jealous type. Sharing his sub was an integral part of their relationship, especially before they were married. It’s been a year since they’ve invited another to play with them, but then Deacon and Sherri meet Kai, the intriguing ex-Air Force Captain turned tattoo artist.

Kai didn’t care if people thought he was gay, but having his father – the Colonel – shame him publicly for it was more than Kai could take. He moved across the country to start an honest life. He didn’t expect that life would include a new relationship.

Kai isn’t sure where he fits into Deacon and Sherri’s relationship – they didn’t need a bisexual Dom with a chip on his shoulder… or did they?

Reader Advisory: Grab a glass of wine, sit back and relax. This story has two hot Doms and their pampered sub -tonight no one is going to bed unsatisfied. Graphic sexual language and scenes are to be expected. (BDSM, MMF and MM scenes)

EXCERPT  by Michelle Fox
“So you wanted to be a Blood Courtesan. You thought that would get you what you wanted?” He leaned down, looming over me. “Well, through your own stupidity, you’re going to find out if that was a good plan or not.”
“I am?” My voice came out in a breathy dog whistle squeak.
“I will take you as mine.”
“You will?” This was a whisper, my vocal cords had drawn tight, strangled by fight-or-flight adrenaline.
“In every way.” Pyro’s eyes held a knowing gleam I didn’t understand, and the baritone rumble of his voice throbbed with wickedness.
My body responded with a throb of its own, like a nearby tribe answering a signal. His voice, just his voice had slipped through my skin cells to the vulnerable flesh beneath. That was all it took for him to get to me.
Oh god. Oh god. Oh god.
My stomach hit an iceberg of fear and promptly sank.  The things he could do to me, the things he would do to me…
“This way Theo cannot touch you and I am repaid for the trouble you have caused.”  He rested a finger on my cheek and slipped it down to my jaw and then lower, to the hollow of my neck. My pulse tapped out an SOS into his finger, but he didn’t notice…or maybe he didn’t care.
“Fortunately for you, I am between courtesans right now.”
“That’s me. So lucky,” I half-sobbed. I wanted to be brave, but I had no way out and I knew it. Pyro’s offer or death. Those were my choices. No in between.
“No tears, Violet. You brought this on yourself.” He gripped my chin and his hard gaze drilled into mine. “But you’re pretty. You have a nice blush. And if I’m any judge of women, you’re innocent, yes?”
I didn’t respond and he gave me a little shake. “Answer me. You’re untouched, aren’t you?”
“Yes.” And when he bit me, he’d know why.
“A crazy little virgin in my bed.” He let me go and stepped back, shaking his head. “I would have never thought to ask for someone like you, but now that you’re here…” He trailed off.
“What?” The question tumbled from nerveless lips.
“I’m going to enjoy making you scream.”

I made a mistake.
I allowed myself to be born. I allowed myself access into a life that wasn’t mine, and for that, I had willingly submitted my body and soul to a man whose sadistic pleasures knew no bound, a man who relished in my pain as much as he craved my flesh.
A monster I would do anything to escape.
But what if I could make it stop? What if the cost of freedom was a single night in a stranger’s arms? What if one final sin was all I needed to commit to find peace?
 Kieran Kincaid
I had always known of the sickness that lived inside my father, the demons who controlled the man. His death was a blessing to every innocent he’d destroyed with his dark hunger.
Yet, despite his demise becoming my curse, a shackle trapping me in his twisted secrets, it lured me to it, too. It promised me the thing I coveted above all else. It seduced me deeper into the world I wish I knew nothing of, but there was no turning back, not even if by accepting, by taking what didn’t belong to me made me a monster like him.
Gabby would finally be mine.

Excerpt

“You’re killing me here! Seriously? A glory hole, in the restroom?” I’m laughing so hard, I nearly tip over the chair I’m leaning back on.

“It’s not fucking funny, you asshole. I just want to know if you can come over and fix it?” Kester is trying not to laugh, I can hear it, but I love winding him up.

“For you, baby, anything. I’ll get another divide and come on over.” I drop the front two legs of the chair back down on the floor.

“Thank you, I’d like it done before opening tonight.” Kes sounds more relaxed.

“Only because I love you, but there’s one condition: we have to try it first.” Damn, the thought of that has my dick throbbing.

“Hmm, maybe. It depends how quickly you can get here,” he chuckles.

“I’m on my way.” I end the call and pick up my keys.

I’m still smiling when I hit the builders’ merchants. I have no problem choosing the correct piece since it was me who fitted out the bar when Kes bought it and needed to refurbish the whole place.

I shake my head as I remember seeing Kes for the first time in years. I knew him, of course. But, as he’s older, we were never friends at school and I would never have been brave enough to approach him anyway. Kester Dereham was the coolest kid in school: smart, baseball captain, and so damn hot in his tight white pants. I spent hours dreaming of him. And jerking off. Hell yeah, plenty of hours whacking one off with his face filling my mind. He’d gone off to college and only came back during the summers and holidays and, still, we never socialized in the same circle.

I was surprised when I heard he’d moved back for good and saddened for the reason, so I was more than ready to do the refit for him. I wasn’t prepared for him to remember me, let alone come on to me. I had no idea he was gay but, hell, I was never gonna turn him down. That was two years ago. We now have a house together and have been accepted by our, normally closeminded, community as a couple.

Pulling up outside the bar, I grab my tool bag from the back of the truck, leaving the partition where it is for now. Sauntering up to the door, I tap on the glass and wait for him to reach me, giving me time to take all of him in. He stands taller than me at six foot, with dirty blond hair that is long enough to tie back at the nape of his neck. Under the tight, black T-shirt with the bar’s name emblazoned across the front, I can see the outline of his firm, muscular body, the one I know intimately and have mapped every plane of with my tongue. His hazel eyes sparkle and his smile widens as he reaches me.

“Hey, baby, you have moved quickly. Always so eager to please.” Kes’ voice lowers as he leans in to kiss me. His mouth hovers over mine briefly, but long enough to make me sigh in need, then presses firmly onto mine.

EIGHTY-ONE DAYS

Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance

Eric didn’t know Luke would be heartbroken when he left town to join a hotshot forest fire crew in Western Canada. They’d been best friends since kindergarten, had gone to school together, had bought their first car and a home together, and had shared their lovers. At some point, friendship had turned to love.

Luke didn’t expect that when he’d brought his crazy cat in for stitches that his heart that would be mended by the sassy new veterinarian. Jenna may have been new in town but she’d heard the rumors and she liked the carnal fantasies he spun for her in bed of he and his best friend sharing her.

Of course, that was before Eric’s job brought him home and back into their lives.

Jenna isn’t sure she can be what they need, but she’s not going give up without a fight.

Even if that means inviting the sexy firefighter to share their bed. Surely there is enough love to go around.

Don’t be a stranger? Had that been Eric’s way, he wondered, of saying I miss you too? The situation had been totally fucked up, but it had worked. At least, right up until the moment he had met Jenna. He couldn’t do that to Jenna.

Instead he had told Eric about how Winchester had fallen asleep in her arms. How Jenna knew how to make homemade pasta but hated tomatoes. He had begun detailing all the little things that she did or said that were making him fall in love with her and that he knew could make Eric fall in love with her too.

He knew it wasn’t fair to any of them, but after seeing how well they had gotten on all summer, he couldn’t help but hope for something more. He wanted the fantasy.

“Hey. You totally just zoned out there.” Jenna squeezed his hand and he looked up. “We don’t have to stay for the movie.”

“No. I want to.” It had become a monthly ritual, to head to his parents’ for dinner and a movie. “I promised Mom we’d watch The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with her.”

“I know you’re really doing that for me.” Jenna snuggled into his side and kissed his cheek.

“You’re right. I’ll probably sneak away with Dad to watch baseball.”

“Totally acceptable, so long as you bring me a Nespresso from your Mom’s ‘off-limits’ coffee maker.”

“It’s only off limits to my dad. She totally loves that you enjoy the Nespresso. We can get one for home, you know?” Luke knew she found the coffee he made too weak. She liked her coffee like sludge. It made him shudder.

She shook her head, smiling. “Nope. This way it’s special.”

He had just brought her a cup of Nespresso and was going to join his father in the rec room to watch the baseball game he’d recorded that afternoon when he heard the crunch of tires on the driveway.

“I got it,” he called to his mom so they didn’t have to stop their movie. He pulled open the front door to see Eric ascending the steps.

Luke stared.

Eric looked just as startled. After a moment he stumbled over his words, “Your mom. That is, I mean, she invited me for dessert.”

“Eric, come on in. I saved you a piece of apple pie.” Luke’s mother, Maggie, called from inside.
